About the Filmmaker
Stefanie Joshua-Cordova is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn. With no formal background in film production or editing, Stefanie initiated this documentary project while researching and writing her Master's thesis on delinquency and social disorganization theory. Utilizing news articles, census data and interviews about the Bushwick community spanning the years 1970 through 2000, in conjunction with the testimony and interviews with young men who grew up in Bushwick, this project has allowed the filmmaker to gain closure on questions about her own experiences growing up in this Brooklyn neighborhood.
Stefanie received her Master's degree in sociology from City College, NYC in spring 2005. A former high school math teacher, Stefanie holds a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics from Stony Brook University. Stefanie currently works and lives in New York City.
